WWII veterans were congratulated in Kalmykia at the parade in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory

On May 9, a parade was held in the Republic of Kalmykia in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. During the event, local veterans were congratulated. Izvestia publishes the footage.

Veterans Peter Leontievich Leontiev, Irina Savelyevna Yesinova, Andrey Vasilyevich Velikorodny, Nikolai Antonovich Skvortsov and Nikolai Ivanovich Ishchenko currently live in the republic.

The residents of Kalmykia, who are currently taking part in a special military operation, were also noted and thanked.

More than 40 thousand natives of Kalmykia fought on all fronts of the Second World War. For exceptional courage and heroism, 24 residents of the republic were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union and more than 10,000 more were awarded orders and medals. Everyone tried to make their best contribution to the fight against the fascist invaders.

Thus, the Great Victory in the Second World War was brought closer by the soldiers of the 28th Army, who stopped the enemy's advance in the village of Hulkhuta. The soldiers of the 110th Separate Kalmyk Cavalry Division, who were tasked with protecting the Don river crossings and building the strategically important Kizlyar-Astrakhan railway, also made a significant contribution. It was she who subsequently made a huge contribution to the outcome of the Battle of Stalingrad.

In honor of the War Heroes, natives of Kalmykia, state awards were established — the Order of Hero of the Soviet Union Basan Badminovich Gorodovikov and the Erdni Teledzhievich Delikov medal.

On May 9, a parade dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War was held on Red Square in Moscow. This year's parade crews included participants in a special military operation. Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that the defeat of Nazism was achieved through joint efforts, including the opening of a second front. The Russian leader noted that almost 80% of the population of many countries was involved in the Second World War.
