Alexander Ovechkin, a Russian hockey player and captain of the Washington Capitals hockey Club, surpassed Pavel Datsyuk's achievement in the Stanley Cup among Russians. This was announced on May 9 by the press service of Ovechkin's media team.

"Alexander Ovechkin played his 158th career Stanley Cup match, overtaking former Detroit Red Wings player Pavel Datsyuk (157) and taking a clean fourth place among Russian hockey players in this indicator," the Telegram channel clarified.

Sergey Fedorov remains the leader in the number of matches in the playoffs with 183 games. In second place is Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin with 177 games, and former Dallas Stars defenseman Sergey Zubov, who played 164 Stanley Cup games, closes the top three.

Ovechkin scored his 895th goal in the NHL regular season on April 6 in a match against the New York Islanders, breaking Wayne Gretzky's record of 894 goals scored.

During the gala evening in honor of his sniper record in the regular championships of the National Hockey League (NHL), the Russian striker was presented with a kid. The gift was presented to the athlete by his long-time teammate, Swede Niklas Backstrom. He was also presented with a gold hockey stick and a premium watch.
