The threats of the European Union (EU) against Serbia due to the arrival of President Aleksandar Vucic in Moscow for the Victory Day Parade are an attempt on the country's sovereignty. This was announced on May 9 by Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botan-Kharchenko.

"The EU's threats to stop Serbia's progress along the "European path" due to the presence of President Vucic at the Victory Day Parade in Moscow are an attempt on Serbia's sovereignty, on the dignity of the country and its leader," he wrote on the Telegram channel.

According to him, these actions of the EU are also an attempt to belittle the importance of Victory Day, giving way to neo-Nazism.

Earlier in the day, Slovakian MEP Lubos Blaga said that the decision of the Baltic countries to close the skies to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Vucic's planes was contrary to EU standards.

Vucic arrived in Moscow on May 7. He stressed that he was indifferent to the reaction of Western countries to his visit to Russia.

On May 6, it was reported that the authorities of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland banned Vucic's plane from crossing their airspace because of the Serbian president's intentions to visit Moscow.
