Thousands of residents of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) visited the Saur-Grave memorial complex, where they commemorated the servicemen who took part in the Great Patriotic War. On May 9, Izvestia correspondent Evgeny Bykovsky informed about this.

"People from all over the territory of the DPR have been coming here since this morning to honor the memory of the soldiers who gave their lives in the autumn of 1943 on the slopes of this mound. More than 23,000 Soviet soldiers gave their lives for the liberation of this strategically important height," the journalist noted.

It is specified that in 2014, the defenders of the DPR on top of the mound held the line against Ukrainian militants. Then they were able to defend the territory at the cost of their lives.

Denis Pushilin, the head of the DPR, addressed the participants of the commemorative event. He called the memorial complex a place of "spiritual strength, concentration of heroic deeds," which began the liberation of Donbass.

"It was the decision of [Russian President] Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to return this monument to Donbass <...> and in 2022 it was erected again," Pushilin said.

According to him, at the moment one can see the perpetuation of the memory of our heroic ancestors, grandfathers and great-grandfathers who "knew the fascist evil spirits"

On the same day, the military personnel of the Vostok group congratulated the residents of the DPR and the Zaporozhye region on Victory Day. They were also presented with memorable gifts, flowers, sweets and food packages.
