The march of the Immortal Regiment along Nevsky Prospekt on the day of the 80th anniversary of the Victory gathered 1 million 100 thousand participants. The event was attended by Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg, and Alexander Belsky, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg. This was reported by the Smolny press service.

The participants of the march carried portraits of their relatives, participants of the heroic defense of Leningrad, along the main street of the city.

"The Immortal regiment returned to Nevsky Prospekt. Leningraders and Petersburgers have been waiting for this very much. Every family keeps the memory of heroes. This is an important event, it is a true unity of generations. This is our living memory of our relatives and friends who fought for us and preserved this great city for posterity," said Alexander Beglov.

Beglov carried portraits of his father, Hero of the Great Patriotic War Dmitry Nikitovich Beglov, who fought in the Khalkhin Gol, Finnish, Great Patriotic War and Japanese Wars, and his uncle, Hero of the Soviet Union Valentin Alekseevich Beglov, who died in 1945 during the capture of Breslau (Wroclaw).

Before the start of the march, the governor addressed greetings to the veterans, the blockade and the participants of the SVO, who led the column of the Immortal Regiment in retro cars.

The historic car with the Golden Star of the Hero City of Leningrad, awarded to the city in 1965, was the very first to drive along Nevsky Prospekt. The award was placed in a special protective case. The car was accompanied by a company of honor guards.

Victory volunteers carried an enlarged copy of the Victory Banner. Following them, the banner group carried ten standards of the Red Army fronts that fought the enemy during the Great Patriotic War.

Veterans of the special military operation with their families, honorary citizens of St. Petersburg, representatives of public, religious and national cultural organizations took part in the march.

Representatives of all 16 republics of the Soviet Union that existed in 1945 brought up the rear of the column.
