As part of the peace agreement, Ukraine will not be guaranteed membership in NATO. This was announced on May 9 by the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte.

"All NATO members agreed on the irreversible path of Ukraine's accession to NATO, but we never agreed that Ukraine would be guaranteed membership in NATO as part of the peace agreement. It was never agreed upon," Rutte said.

According to him, there is a possibility of Ukraine's membership in the alliance in the long term, but not within the framework of the peace negotiations that are currently underway.

On April 25, US President Donald Trump said that Kiev was unlikely to ever join NATO, and noted that Ukraine's claims to membership in the bloc had caused a conflict with the Russian Federation.

Rutte said on April 4 that no one had promised Ukraine to join NATO immediately after the conflict ended. He noted that the alliance had previously only promised Kiev an irreversible path to membership in the organization.
