The march of the patriotic action "Immortal Regiment" is taking place in St. Petersburg. The footage is published by Izvestia on May 9.
The column is moving along Nevsky Prospekt in the direction of the Palace Square.
Tens of thousands of Petersburgers are taking part in the event, who joined the action in order to honor the memory of their relatives. People are chanting "Hurrah!", "Russia", and also singing military songs in unison. One of the posters reads: "From grateful Leningraders and Petersburgers."
"Today is May 9th. I really like this holiday. Today is an important day," said Bai Lutsa, a participant in the march.
The son of a WWII veteran, Yuri Abramov, joined the march with a photo of his father and told his story.
"My father had four brothers. Of the four, he was the only one left. Everyone died, and he was wounded twice at Stalingrad in 1943. In 1943, he was fully commissioned. <...> Every year we remember," he said.
On this day, the participants of the special operation in Ukraine joined the action and held the "Immortal Regiment" right in combat positions. They also laid wreaths at the memorial to those who died during the Great Patriotic War.
On May 8, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced that the patriotic action "Immortal Regiment" in 2025 would be held in 97 countries.
