Alexey Koblev, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, told Izvestia on May 9 how he celebrated Victory in 1945 and that he was glad to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory alive in 2025.

"Happy, with tears in their eyes — those were the emotions. Just like all our people. The war was long, terrible, and brutal. We have all been waiting for this victory. Everyone was happy, and here we are, the veterans, happy to have lived to see the 80th anniversary of Victory in the year of Defender of the Fatherland," Koblev said.

He said that he came to the war in the autumn of 1944 as a tankman. He served at the front for only six months. He was sent to the Baltic States. Part of them was located on the border with East Prussia, in the Lithuanian direction. Together with their colleagues, they repaired tanks in the field.

"Tanks were being rebuilt under the tent, evacuated from the battlefield... Winter passed quickly, and on May 9, our spring joy arrived, the Victory over Nazi Germany," Koblev said.

After that, the military unit where the veteran served was almost immediately redirected to Sakhalin to participate in the war with Japan, which ended in September 1945. Despite this, Alexey Koblev remained in the ranks of the Red Army and served for eight years on Sakhalin, having passed all ranks from junior sergeant to colonel.

"We are practically children of war. Our childhood and early years were cut short by the war. Instead of being in my homeland and living with my family, I was cut off for 10 years," the veteran said.

Earlier that day, Alexander Trynkov, a participant in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) who arrived at the 80th anniversary of Victory military parade, told Izvestia about his service in the Far East and the liberation of China, having traveled from Amur to Harbin. According to him, education and discipline helped the military to stand up, and everything had to be done flawlessly in the service.
