The United States Embassy in Moscow on Victory Day on May 9 said that the United States honors the memory of the victims of the Russian people in World War II. At the same time, the victory over Nazi Germany is common, the diplomatic mission said in a statement.

"The 80th anniversary of the Victory in the European Theater of World War II is not only a time of triumphant celebration, but also a moment of silence and reverent memory," the embassy's Telegram channel said.

The press service of the diplomatic mission noted that they remember the sacrifices the Russians suffered: the siege of Leningrad - "almost 900 days of exhausting hunger and fierce resistance", who fell during the battles for Stalingrad and Sevastopol. As well as women digging trenches and children delivering messages.

"We remember the contribution of the American, Soviet and other Allied forces to achieving a common goal. Soldiers of the Red Army who fought for every kilometer, for every village, recapturing their land from the invaders. <...> On this day, we honor those whose sacrifices brought Victory. The victory was shared. And the memory of her, too," the message says.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Victory Day Parade in Moscow on Red Square that the defeat of Nazism had been achieved through joint efforts, including the opening of a second front. The Russian leader noted that almost 80% of the world's population was involved in World War II. The complete defeat of Nazism was achieved by the joint efforts of many countries.
