The Hockey Writers included Ovechkin in the top three best NHL forwards

Alexander Ovechkin, a Russian hockey player and captain of the Washington Capitals hockey club, is among the top three forwards in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Hockey Writers published The Hockey Players' rating on May 8.

Together with Ovechkin, Canadians Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe are in the top three hockey players.

The second tier of the best forwards consists of hockey players Sidney Crosby, Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr, while Luc Robitaille, Brian Trottier and Mike Bossi are in the third.

In addition, the publication has compiled a fourth line of strikers, which includes Bob Gainey, Steve Yzerman and Bobby Clark.

Ovechkin scored his 895th goal in the NHL regular season on April 6 in a match against the New York Islanders, breaking Wayne Gretzky's record of 894 goals scored.
