Romanian presidential candidate demands compensation from Ukraine

Romania should receive compensation from Ukraine for the military assistance provided to it, in particular for the use of the Patriot air defense system. This was announced on May 8 by George Simion, who won the first round of elections for the presidency of Romania.
"Ukraine needs us, not the other way around. We want compensation for Romania's participation in the hostilities. For the Patriot system," the politician said on the Digi24 TV channel.
In addition, Simion noted that if he wins the election, he undertakes to review the financial priorities of the state. According to him, Romania will no longer "give a single leu" to other countries.
The politician added that he also wants to pay attention to Romania's internal affairs, while maintaining neutrality in international matters.
Vadim Trukhachev, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Regional Studies and Foreign Policy at the Russian State University of Economics, in an interview with Izvestia on May 6, called Simion's position on the Ukrainian conflict the reason for his victory in the first round of the presidential elections in Romania. The expert noted that the majority of Romanians are close to George Simion's priorities regarding the state budget.
