Zakharova pointed to the use of Russophobia by the West for political pressure

Representatives of Western countries use Russophobia as a political pressure to substitute concepts and attempts to falsify the results of the Second World War. This was stated on May 8 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in the preface to the book by the Italian journalist Vincenzo Lorusso De russophobia.
"Russophobia, as it is convincingly demonstrated in this work, is not a spontaneous emotion, but an instrument of political pressure, justification of aggression, substitution of concepts, deformation of memory," she stressed.
In her opinion, Western countries use Russophobia to falsify the results of the Second World War. She noted that the same institutions that recently declared the need to preserve democracy and pluralism of opinions are involved in this process.
Zakharova also noted that the book De russophobia carefully examines historical and current facts. Thus, Lorusso reconstructs the context in detail, which allows us to understand not only what happened, but also the reasons why information about these events was presented to Western society in a certain way.
She also recalled that Russia and Italy had previously helped each other. So, during the Second World War, during the post-war reconstruction and in tragic moments of natural disasters, the USSR came to the aid of Italy. And during the tragic days of the terrorist attack in Beslan, the republic provided invaluable assistance to the Russian Federation. In March 2020, Russia helped the Italians in the early days of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic by sending medical teams.
"These are all manifestations of a deep national feeling, which, as the book shows, is not subject to either political manipulation or ideological conjuncture," Zakharova concluded.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on May 7 that the policy of Russophobia continues in the Baltic states, which extends to their European partners. He added that such actions indicate the growing contradictions within the European Union (EU).
