American leader Donald Trump may raise taxes on wealthy citizens with annual incomes exceeding $2.5 million to 39.6%. This was reported on May 8 by The New York Times, citing sources.

"Trump wants to create a new category of taxpayers with an income of more than $2.5 million per year and tax incomes above this level at a rate of 39.6%," the publication says.

The US president also plans to cancel tax breaks for people who are heads of private equity funds. It is clarified that the American leader has already had a conversation on this topic with Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress Mike Johnson.

The Washington Post reported on April 23 that the Trump administration is considering the possibility of raising taxes on Americans who earn over $1 million a year. The publication noted that this initiative is supported by Vice President J. D. Vance and Director of the Office of Administrative and Budgetary Policy Russell Vout.
