US officials have begun discussing US President Donald Trump's plan to reduce trade duties on imports from China from 145% to 50%, and Washington is considering announcing an easing of these measures next week. This was reported on May 8 by the New York Post newspaper, with links to sources close to this process.

"American officials are discussing President Trump's proposal to reduce punitive duties on Chinese goods to 50-54%," the publication says.

It is noted that the White House expects success from the upcoming trade negotiations, although they do not exclude their duration. Taxes at the same time, as suggested by the newspaper's sources, for neighboring South Asian countries will be reduced by 25%.

On May 4, Trump announced his intention to reduce duties on goods from China at some point so that business could be done with Beijing. According to the President of the United States, China's economy is collapsing because of the tariffs he has imposed.
