The author of the book "The Adventures of the Yellow Suitcase", children's writer Sofia Prokofieva died at the age of 97. This was announced on May 7 by the press service of the Gorodets publishing house.
"Today, at the age of 97, Sofia Prokofieva, a beloved storyteller of many generations of children and adults, died, whose wonderful books enriched the children's direction of our publishing house. Eternal memory to the wonderful writer and man!" the publishing house said in a message on the VKontakte social network.
Sofia Prokofieva was born on May 14, 1928. She was a Soviet and Russian children's writer, poet, translator, playwright, screenwriter, and author of fairy tales and magical stories for toddlers and schoolchildren. Her works have been awarded many international awards. These include the Kodai Prize in Japan for the best book for children, the National Literary Award "Golden Pen of Russia", etc. Her fairy tales have been translated into more than twenty languages, many of which have been used in feature films and animated films.
Thus, the filmed novel "The Adventures of the Yellow Briefcase" (1970) received three awards at international festivals, including the silver medal of the Venice Biennale and the diploma "For the Best feature Film for Children" at the V International Children's Film Festival in Tehran. She was also the author of the screenplays for the animated films "Island of Captains", "The Wizard's Apprentice", as well as the feature films "While the Clock is Striking" (1976), "Leave the Window Open", "Without Witnesses" (1983).
