Monuments have been unveiled in Saransk and Kovylkino in the Republic of Mordovia to soldiers who died in the line of duty in the area of a special military operation.

The Saransk monument, unveiled on Victory Square, depicts a fighter with a machine gun in his hand, behind which a child is hiding. Three storks are flying over the soldier's head. The opening ceremony of this monument was attended by cadets, schoolchildren, wives, children and widows of the participants of the Military Academy, as well as veterans. The servicemen also laid flowers at the monument.

"We have made a decision and now we have a monument. Now our soldiers, wives, and widows have somewhere to come and bow," said Yuri Polobichev, a combat veteran.

The memorial in Kovylkino consists of commemorative plaques with the names of soldiers who fell in the area of their military, and its main part is a marble monument with a soldier depicted.

Cadets and military personnel were invited to the opening ceremony, and they lit an eternal flame next to the new landmark. The head of the Republic of Mordovia, Artyom Zdunov, also spoke at the event.

On May 8, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the military personnel of the Vostok group of forces had restored the memorial to soldiers who fell in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) in one of the liberated settlements of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).
