- In Russia, helicopters with portraits of WWII pilots took to the skies in honor of the Victory anniversary
In Russian cities, 15 helicopters with portraits of heroes-pilots of the Great Patriotic War took to the skies in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory.
It is noted that this event is timed to coincide with the "Immortal Regiment in the Sky" campaign, which was organized by Russian Helicopters.
"The main idea of the project was to honor the memory of the heroic pilots of the Great Patriotic War and bring them back to their element - the sky. The images of the glorified heroes of aerial battles and operations, ground attacks and strikes against the enemy again swept through the clouds in cars," said Rostec's Russian Helicopters holding company.
In addition, these helicopters were produced at enterprises that supplied aircraft to the front in 1941-1945. The holding also added that many grandchildren of Soviet pilots took part in the action as pilots. For example, in one of the regions, a helicopter with the image of pilot Vasily Nikulin was operated by his grandson, an active civil aviation pilot.
The commemorative event was held in Kazan, Arkhangelsk, Magadan, Ulan-Ude, Naryan-Mar, Moscow region, Primorsky Krai and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.
On the eve it became known that a series of murals with portraits of WWII heroes appeared in Vologda. They were painted by Vologda artist Oleg Ivanov. For example, the portrait of Marshal Ivan Konev, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, is depicted on building No. 20 on Konev Street. And a mural depicting twice Hero of the Soviet Union fighter pilot Alexander Klubov appeared on the facade of the fifth building of the 22nd house on Zalineina Street.
