The European Union (EU) has transferred €1 billion to Ukraine's accounts as the next tranche of proceeds from the reinvestment of frozen assets of the Russian Federation. This was announced on May 8 by European Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis.
"Today, we have transferred another €1 billion in the framework of the Group of Seven program for €45 billion from income from assets of the Russian Federation," he wrote on the social network X (former. Twitter).
The European Commissioner noted that this year, thanks to this program, Ukraine has already received €6 billion, while in the future the European Commission (EC) intends to transfer another €12 billion to it.
On May 1, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal announced that Luxembourg would allocate €10 million to Kiev for the country's energy support. He noted that the relevant document was signed by Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. According to him, Luxembourg also plans to allocate €80 million for military assistance to Ukraine.
Before that, on April 25, the head of the Austrian Freedom Party faction in the European Parliament, Harald Wilimski, said that the EU needed to stop sponsoring military conflicts around the world. He also called it absurd that it is the European Peace Fund that finances the acquisition of weapons.
