- Lyubimova called the screening of the film "Red Silk" in China a breakthrough in cultural exchange.

The Russian-Chinese film "Red Silk" became the first large-scale blockbuster co-production and opened a new chapter in cooperation between the two countries, becoming a real breakthrough in cultural exchange between Russia and China. On May 8, the Minister of Culture of Russia Olga Lyubimova told Izvestia.
According to her, for many years, Russian and Chinese film festivals have served as an important platform for developing a bilateral dialogue and expanding the acquaintance of viewers of both countries with each other's cultural program.
The Minister noted that recent years have shown a significant increase in the interest of film producers from the two countries in making films. Lyubimova stressed that this made it possible to implement large-scale projects in practice, among which the Red Silk occupies a special place. According to her, the film was a real breakthrough and opened new horizons for joint creative initiatives, consolidating the trend towards deeper cultural exchange.
"Now we see that the Red Silk was a success in Russia. In September, Red Silk will launch in China. Today it was officially announced. We will be rooting for our picture and waiting for the second part — "Black Silk", the producers have announced that the second picture is already being prepared," the minister said.
Lyubimova noted that the success of "Red Silk" is not only the achievement of individual creators, but also an important step in strengthening the partnership between Moscow and Beijing, expanding the boundaries of cinematographic art and creating conditions for further joint projects.
Such an exchange not only contributes to the development of the film industry, but also helps to build mutual respect and understanding between peoples, making the boundaries of cultures more transparent and accessible to all, the minister added.
"For example, right now Chinese producers are interested in the success of The Wizard of Oz, and it will be released in China very soon. It is very important for us that the children like it and the families like it," Lyubimova added.
Earlier that day, NMG and CMG signed a cooperation agreement. According to Svetlana Balanova, CEO of NMG, the signing of the agreement will be an important stage in the further development of bilateral relations and will contribute to strengthening cultural and business cooperation between the Russian Federation and China.
On May 7, it became known that Andrei Volgin's joint Russian-Chinese film "Red Silk" will be released in China in September 2025. The film's distributor is NMG Film Distribution (part of NMG Holding), and the production was handled by Nota Bene Film Group and NMG.
On the same day, "Red Silk" became the first modern Russian painting to receive the "dragon Seal" for unlimited distribution in China. At the same time, Sinologist Sergey Mstislavsky noted that there is a lot of interest in the historical period reflected in the film in China, which ensures high box office receipts.
