The Presidents of Cuba and Venezuela laid flowers at the monument to Simon Bolivar.


Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, accompanied by the first ladies, laid flowers at the monument to Simon Bolivar in Moscow on May 8.
In addition, Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov also laid wreaths at the monument. It is noted that the flower-laying ceremony was held as part of the visit of the leaders of both countries to the capital in order to take part in events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).
The Cuban president arrived in Russia on May 4. He started his visit from St. Petersburg, where he was met by Governor Alexander Beglov. He thanked Diaz-Canel for participating in the wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial to the Soviet internationalist soldier in a Havana suburb and stressed that his visit is a symbol of the unbreakable friendship between the two states.
Also the day before, Maduro arrived in Moscow for events in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. After the Venezuelan president got off the plane, he was greeted by a Russian delegation. Later, he arrived in the Kremlin for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
