- Orban predicted bankruptcy for Europe in case of abandonment of Russian energy resources

The European continent will go bankrupt in case of abandonment of Russian energy resources. This was announced on May 8 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Thus, the Hungarian prime minister supported the position of his Slovak counterpart Robert Fico, who ruled out Bratislava's participation in the construction of a new iron curtain between Europe and Russia.
"Robert Fico is right. <...> The proposal of [European Commission President Ursula] von der Leyen will bankrupt Europe," he wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
According to Orban, this will become an unbearable burden for families in Central European countries. He said he would not allow Brussels to force Hungarian families "to pay the price for Ukraine's accession to the European Union."
On May 5, Bloomberg reported that the European Commission intends to propose banning gas imports from Russia by the end of 2027. It was clarified that European countries are going to take this measure because they seek to sever relations with Russia, which was once their largest energy supplier.
