The Venezuelan Foreign Minister spoke about the construction of a monument dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War

A monument will be erected in Venezuela to mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Red Army in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), as Caracas feels the need to pay tribute to the millions of dead Soviet people who saved the world from the most terrible evil - Nazism and fascism. This was stated to Izvestia on May 8 by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto.

According to Pinto, the construction of the monument is the least that Venezuela can do to honor the memory of the heroes.

"As Latin Americans, as defenders of life, we feel obliged to pay tribute to the more than 26 million Soviet men, women, and most Russians who gave their lives so that we could exist today," the minister stressed.

Pinto noted that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro congratulates the people of Russia and all the peoples whose states were part of the USSR, and sacrificed their own lives in the name of containing the most terrible evil in the 20th century.

"The battle that the Red Army waged for the existence of the whole world — humanity should be grateful to the Soviet people, who gave their lives, fought, resisted and defeated a numerically superior enemy force, at the cost of almost 80% of their own forces," concluded the head of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

On May 7, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Maduro said that thanks to the victory of the Red Army and the heroism of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), Europe and all of humanity were saved. According to him, if this had not happened, the world would have entered a phase of crimes and a very serious crisis. Putin noted that the anniversary of the victory over Nazism is a special day for Russia.
