A memorial plaque was erected in Tiraspol in honor of the hero of the defense of Odessa and Sevastopol, Red Army soldier Semyon Hitler. This was announced on May 7 by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

"The grand opening took place at the blown—up long-term firing point No. 911 of the Tiraspol fortified area," the department said in a message on its Telegram channel.

It is specified that in the battle near Odessa, he single-handedly fired at the enemy for eight days, supported the surrounded platoon, and then made his way to his own after 10 km. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree and medals, including posthumously. He died during the defense of Sevastopol in July 1942.

The ministry clarified that after the death of the hero during the defense of Sevastopol in July 1942, his last name was changed to "Gitlev" in the order on his award. Therefore, on the memorial plaque installed on Wednesday in Tiraspol, there is a double surname — Hitler-Gitlev.

On the eve of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), a solemn assembly and the opening of a monument to the war heroes took place at the private educational school "City of the Sun" in Mytishchi near Moscow. Marshal of the USSR Kliment Voroshilov worked on the school grounds for many years. On the eve of the memorable date, a plaque commemorating the name of the commander was unveiled.
