Fico accused Estonia of trying to disrupt his visit to Moscow
On May 7, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the decision of the Estonian authorities to close the country's airspace was an attempt to disrupt his visit to Moscow to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory.
"Estonia has announced that it will not allow us to fly over its territory. <...> Of course, this is a deliberate attempt to disrupt my visit to Moscow on the occasion of the official celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory," Fico said in a video message posted on Facebook (owned by Meta Corporation, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
According to him, Slovakia is trying to find an alternative route so that the country's delegation can attend the laying of a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier and important bilateral meetings.
Earlier that day, the media reported that the Estonian authorities had banned the use of the country's airspace for flights to Moscow for the 80th anniversary of Victory.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in turn, called the closure of airspace by EU countries for those wishing to get to Moscow to celebrate Victory Day a disgrace.
