The plot of the film "Red Silk" is interesting to the Chinese audience, as it evokes a sense of national unity. Ekaterina Zaklyazminskaya, head of the Center for World Politics and Strategic Analysis at the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Izvestia about this on May 7.

"[The release of the film] is a very big event, both in the history of the Russian people and the Chinese people, since the film is dedicated to our bilateral history, important subjects for China, which are related, among other things, to the unification of the motherland," she said.

The expert explained that the film discusses Russian-Chinese cooperation during one of the most difficult periods in China's history: in the 1920s, the main task of its authorities was to unite the country.

"The country was a decentralized state, where many different forces were in charge," Zaklyazminskaya said.

The film's release in China in September 2025 falls on an important date for the country: the 80th anniversary of the victory over militaristic Japan, the expert emphasized. According to her, victory anniversaries in the two countries are also a unifying factor.

"Both Russia and China lost more than 30 million people, and a lot of blood was shed, and very violent events took place these days [during World War II]. Of course, it's impossible to forget it. This is in the memory of our peoples, we have many pages together, as our Soviet wars and Chinese fighters fought, one might say, shoulder to shoulder," she commented.

Zaklyazminskaya also noted that there will be more and more joint Russian-Chinese creative projects, especially against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump's promises to impose 100% duties on foreign films.

"In the face of such restrictions from Western films, of course, our cooperation will have an increasingly significant success," the expert concluded.

Earlier that day, Vadim Byrkin, the general producer of the film "Red Silk," said that viewers of Russia and China are united by the traditional values that both nations follow.

On May 7, Sergey Sanakoev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society and a member of the Russian International Affairs Council, said that the Red Silk plays a special historical role for China. According to him, the screening of the film will attract the attention of the Chinese audience, emphasize the importance of national history and common victories of the Russian Federation and China.

"Red Silk" will be released in Chinese cinemas in September 2025. The film's distributor is NMG Film Distribution (part of the National Media Group holding). Produced by Nota Bene Film Group and NMG.
