Russia and Venezuela have agreed to improve ties in the defense sector
Russia and Venezuela have agreed to improve defense relations of interest to the two countries. The text of the agreement between the states was published on May 7 on the Kremlin's website.
"The parties are strengthening an equal and trust-based partnership and strategic cooperation by maintaining a regular and close political and diplomatic dialogue, <...>..> expanding existing and creating new coordination mechanisms across the entire spectrum of the bilateral agenda, relevant international and regional issues of mutual interest," the document says.
It is noted that Russia and Venezuela have agreed to oppose unilateral sanctions, violations of the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and manifestations of neo-colonialism, and also agreed to develop cooperation in the military-technical sphere and in the field of space research.
According to the text of the document, the states also agreed to contribute to the creation of an independent Russian-Venezuelan financial infrastructure and the expansion of regular flights.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro signed an agreement on strategic partnership between the two countries in Moscow. At the meeting, the heads of state discussed cooperation in the energy sector, including in the oil sector.
