Beating is quite ordinary, no one takes the enemy into space for the sake of a super strike, no one rips out the spine of the defeated, does not burn to ashes, does not crumble into cabbage with swords. But the fights are preceded and completed by short dialogues between the characters, and here they are making the weather. "Oh, it's been ages, buddy, are you in this tournament too?" "Yes, old man, I'm actually looking for my dad, but I came here in the meantime." "Oh, and here's another friend, how are you?" "Yes, somehow, brother, it's all business, business."
A jock meets a student in shorts, and she starts telling him something about her studies, and he casually remarks to her that books are books, and the calluses are fighting, it's clear that she does jiu-jitsu every day. She told him:"Yes, you've figured me out, but science is more important to me anyway." After the fight, this student, having lost, agrees to go on a date with the one she just dragged across the floor and stamped on. It's a mundane matter, it'll heal before the wedding.
These dialogues are full of empathy, an attempt to understand each other, to cheer each other up. Lost? Well, it's sad, of course, but good luck on your big way anyway. It's just a tournament, and beyond it there's a vast life where everything is much more complicated than in an improvised ring. It's a shame to lose when your kids are watching the fight. It's sad that you have to fight with your own brother. But everything will be fine, and after the battle you can have a drink or two in the nearest pub, and then go back to training, because the heroes of Fatal Fury really appreciate the process of self—improvement - not only externally, but also internally.
What is Fatal Fury like?
When you play the new Fatal Fury, you don't so much pay attention to the process itself as you feel and reflect. In the end, the developers came up with a special "smart" mode for non-hardcore gamers, in which most of the complex combinations and super tricks are done with a single button. And you remember, for example, the Lars von Trier comedy "The most important boss." There, the adventurous action is interrupted at some point by a small interlude where the enemies in the film are sitting quietly next to each other, and the voice-over good—naturedly notes that rather than fighting with each other, it would be possible to just discuss everything peacefully together - and life would get better.
You also remember Sergei Miroshnichenko's magnificent film "Rings of the World", perhaps the best official Olympic film in the last half century. The main thing there is not competition or training, but conversations with athletes, for whom Miroshnichenko traveled half the world with his team. Athletes reflect that sport is true freedom, and it is above politics, above money, above state borders and any imposed stereotypes. He's like a spirit that breathes wherever he wants. Lonely and graceful, the fighting game called "Deadly Fury: City of Wolves" is pacing the planet, giving everyone only light and love, without which humanity definitely cannot survive.
