A series of murals with portraits of heroes of the Great Patriotic War appeared in Vologda. They were painted by Vologda artist Oleg Ivanov.

For example, the portrait of Ivan Konev, Hero of the Soviet Union, is depicted on building No. 20 on Konev Street. A mural with the image of fighter pilot Alexander Klubov appeared on the facade of the fifth building of the 22nd house on Zalineina Street.

"On the eve of May 9, we opened the mural to Stepan Alexandrovich Lovenetsky, Hero of the Soviet Union. This is not the first mural that opens on the eve of May 9th. We are also working with colleagues on other murals, so this is not just a project for today. This is a fairly long—term project," said Vitaly Kobylnikov, Minister of Youth Policy of the Vologda Region.

According to him, these murals are important primarily for young people, because they watch and see the heroes who fought for the Fatherland. The project is also a tribute to those who defended and are protecting our country from Nazism, Kobylnikov added.

On May 6, military personnel of the Novosibirsk Missile Unit, on the eve of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), organized a solemn action in the Gvardeysky microdistrict of Novosibirsk, during which they congratulated veterans on the holiday.

During the event, the military prepared a concert program in which songs of the war years were performed, and military children read poems dedicated to the feat of soldiers and home front workers during the Great Patriotic War.
