Moldovan teachers were threatened with dismissal if they participated in the Victory Day parade in the Great Patriotic War on May 9, the Parliamentary Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) announced on May 7.

"The pressure on students and teachers is particularly outrageous — they are openly threatened with dismissal for participating in the Victory March. Calls to dismiss teachers for participating in the march are a gross violation of human rights and freedom of expression," the political force said in a statement.

The party called on the country's authorities to stop putting pressure on schools, as well as to abandon the manipulation of children for political purposes.

"Attempts to rewrite history, sow hostility and division in society are especially dangerous when it is done through the consciousness of the younger generation," the political force said.

On April 23, it was reported that the Moldovan authorities banned the holding of Victory Day events in Chisinau's main square and decided that only Europe Day would be celebrated in the republic on May 9. For these purposes, the area of the Grand National Assembly is planned to be occupied by the organization of the so-called European town.

Ilan Shor, the leader of the Victory opposition bloc, said on April 30 that the Moldovan authorities were deliberately trying to erase the meaning of Victory Day from public memory and erase the truth about WWII. According to him, May 9 is a sacred date for the Moldovan people, the day when fascism was crushed at the cost of millions of lives, including Moldovan heroes.
