The joint Russian-Chinese film "Red Silk" reflects a significant and difficult period in the history of the People's Republic of China, which can be compared with the Civil War in Russia. Boris Dolgov, a senior researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Izvestia about this on May 7.

"This period, the 1920s, is a difficult period for the Chinese Communist Party. Because there were repressions, armed attacks. <...> There was actually a guerrilla struggle of the Chinese Communists against the Kuomintang government in China," the expert said.

He noted that China is quite scrupulous about preserving the memory of important historical events and strictly opposes the falsification of documentary facts. This is how the Chinese approach differs from that adopted in Western countries, where today, on the contrary, there are active attempts to distort history.

According to Dolgov, the release of "Red Silk" in China may give impetus to Russian cinema to create film epics based on the common values of the Russian Federation and China.

"And the common theme that can unite our peoples now is the promotion of genuine traditional values, which are the main ones for both the Chinese and the Russian people," the expert concluded.

The beginning of the screenings of the joint Russian-Chinese project in China is scheduled for September 2025, when Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit there. Krasny Silk was created with the participation of NMG Film Distribution, a member of the National Media Group (NMG). The action in the film takes place in 1927. During the same period, in 1928, the Sixth Congress of the Communist Party of China was held in the USSR.

Alexander Makushin, a historian and expert at the Russian Military Historical Society, told Izvestia on May 7 that the future screening of the Russian-Chinese film "Red Silk" in China on the anniversary of the country's victory over militaristic Japan is a deeply symbolic sign. The two countries have many topics for joint creative projects: the help of the Chinese during the Great Patriotic War, as well as their participation in the revolutionary events in Russia. The expert stressed that the Chinese are always represented with respect in Russian projects.

Earlier that day, "Red Silk" became the first modern Russian painting to receive the "dragon Seal" for unlimited distribution in China. At the same time, Sinologist Sergey Mstislavsky noted that there is a lot of interest in the historical period reflected in the film in China, which ensures high box office receipts.
