On May 7, Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov laid wreaths at the monument to Russian participants of the French Resistance during World War II at the Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris.

"The resistance, many of whom gave their lives for this victory. A hard-fought victory. Moreover, our compatriots joined the fight from the very beginning. Even the very name of the resistance was donated by Russian immigrants to France," said Meshkov.

In addition, he noted that in the ranks of the French Resistance, about 30 thousand Russian soldiers fought for Victory.

On April 22, Meshkov said that Paris had again not invited representatives of the Russian Federation to an official event dedicated to Victory Day, but continued to contact the heirs of the Nazis. He also added that the Russian diplomatic mission plans to organize a traditional event at the monument to the Soviet Resistance movement members.
