The European Commission (EC) will not extend the duty-free import of goods from Ukraine to the European Union (EU) after June 5, and other support opportunities are being explored. EC representative Olof Gill said this at a briefing in Brussels on May 7.

"The point is that we don't plan to extend this mechanism after it ends," Gill said.

According to him, quoted by RIA Novosti, the EC is currently working on other measures to support the Ukrainian agricultural sector.

"Our priority is to work on the revision of the deep and comprehensive free trade area between the EU and Ukraine — DCFTA, as we call it," added Gill.

He noted that the DCFTA modernization is necessary so that the EU can offer long-term certainty and stability to operators both in the European Union and in Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen said that the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU) needs to be accelerated. According to her, substantive negotiations should begin in 2025. She believes that the EC is working hard on this issue.
