The Berliner Zeitung newspaper called on Chancellor Merz to come to Moscow on May 9.

The new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz must definitely come to Moscow to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) on May 9. The Berliner Zeitung newspaper made such an appeal on May 6.
The media notes that in previous years, the German chancellors were never afraid of contacts with Russia. In particular, Konrad Adenauer was the first head of government of West Germany to visit the USSR, and Helmut Kohl called for the unification of the first president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev.
"Today, German diplomacy is likely to be limited to moral patronage or boring press releases. The new chancellor should meet directly with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin," the media writes.
The author of the article notes that about 2,000 German companies are still present in Russia, which continue to do business in the world's largest country, despite Western sanctions.
Earlier, on May 4, in Cologne, participants of the Immortal Regiment rally marched in the uniforms of Soviet soldiers on the eve of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Wartime songs were performed at the event and a car rally was held in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory.
In addition, the leader of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice party, Sarah Wagenknecht, stressed on April 23 that German politicians should not forget about the decisive contribution of the USSR to the victory over Nazi Germany.
