German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius plans to increase military spending to over €60 billion per year. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on May 7, citing sources.

According to one of the interlocutors, an increase in costs is planned as early as 2025.

Earlier, on February 24, Pistorius said that the budget of his department should be doubled to more than €100 billion. At the same time, according to him, the state still should not save on other areas for the sake of this.

On May 6, Friedrich Merz, chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), was appointed Chancellor of Germany after a second vote, gaining the support of 324 Bundestag deputies.

During the first vote, Merz failed to gain the 316 votes needed for appointment to the post of German Chancellor, he was able to enlist the support of only 310 members of the Bundestag. Despite this, he was elected for the second time.
