- The media reported on the threats of the head of the EP to sue the EC over military expenses.

The head of the European Parliament (EP), Robert Metsola, is threatening to file a lawsuit against the European Commission (EC) because of the latter's desire to coordinate defense spending bypassing its legislative authority. Politico writes about this on May 7.
"The Parliament (European Parliament — Ed.) is ready to sue Berlemont (the headquarters of the European Commission - Ed.) because of the plans of the EU executive to ignore the elected members of the European Parliament on the issue of defense spending," the article says.
According to Politico, Metsola appealed to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, with a request to change the legal framework for attracting €150 billion in loans for the rearmament of Europe so that it does not bypass the European Parliament.
It clarifies that the European Parliament is ready to sue the EC if the demand of the legislative body is ignored.
According to Metsola, such a move "undermines the budgetary powers of MEPs."
On March 4, von der Leyen called on Europe to enter the "era of rearmament." She noted that the plan consists of five points. The first part of it is to unblock the use of state defense financing at the national level. The second point is to provide the EU member states with €150 billion in loans for investments in defense.
