Before traveling to exotic countries, it is important to prepare carefully to avoid problems with health and documents. This opinion was shared by Elena Kosheleva, Director of Sberbank Insurance projects, in an interview with Izvestia on May 7.

"The first thing to do is to study the specifics of the country. This applies not only to visa regulations, but also to the sanitary and epidemiological situation," she said.

The specialist explained that dangerous infections such as malaria, Dengue fever and Zika virus are common in some regions.

"You can check the current recommendations on vaccinations on the websites of Rospotrebnadzor or WHO. Some vaccines, for example, against yellow fever, are mandatory for entry into certain countries," the expert added.

According to her, it is important to make a first-aid kit correctly. In addition to the standard kit, which includes antiseptics, antipyretics and poisoning remedies, it is worth taking medications for the treatment of insect bites, antihistamines and repellents. It is also useful to have electrolytes to prevent dehydration.

The expert warned about the danger of food poisoning.

"Drink only bottled water, avoid street food and ice in drinks. Fruits and vegetables should be thoroughly washed and cleaned," she stressed.

Special attention should be paid to sun protection. According to the expert, even in cloudy weather, ultraviolet radiation can be dangerous. Be sure to use a cream with SPF 50+, wear a hat and clothes made of natural fabrics. The expert also recommends to be careful with the local flora and fauna, avoiding contact with animals, as they can be carriers of diseases.

In addition, you should be careful with plants, as some of them can cause allergic reactions.

Finally, it is important to take care of the documents and insurance.

"Make copies of your passport and visa, save them in the cloud. Be sure to get travel insurance — it will cover medical expenses and other unforeseen situations," Kosheleva summed up.

Earlier, on May 4, Elena Prokhorova, head of the Sber Eaptek pharmacy, gave advice on how to combat jet lag in an interview with Izvestia. According to her, upon arrival, the clocks of the country where the person appeared should be maintained. It is better to go to bed immediately at local time, and if you have difficulty falling asleep, take a light sleeping pill based on melatonin, and spend more time in the sun during the day.
