Von der Leyen called for speeding up the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU

The process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU) needs to be accelerated. Substantive negotiations should begin in 2025. This was announced on May 7 by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen.
"We must accelerate the path of Ukraine's accession to membership in our union. This is not only the country's aspiration. This process can become a strong guarantee of security," the EC press service quoted her as saying on its official website.
She also believes that the EC is working hard on this issue. The first negotiations are planned to be held in 2025.
According to the head of the EC, the organization should do everything to start peace negotiations on its own terms as part of the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier, on March 10, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the Hungarian government considers Ukraine's accession to the EU dangerous, but is ready to represent any position of its citizens on this issue in the international arena.
