Auto expert named the most problematic crossovers with mileage in Russia

The BMW X1 and X3 crossovers are among the most problematic in the used car market in this segment. This was stated by Andrey Kochnev, Head of the Motor Transport Department at Alfa-Leasing Group.
According to the expert, owners of the X1 (2011-2015) and X3 (2011-2017) with N20 engines face high maintenance costs combined with frequent breakdowns.
"The main problems are related to the power plant. The N20 engine is characterized by high thermal load, which necessitates regular replacement of gaskets and oil caps. Leaks are characteristic in the area of the oil cup — until 2014 it was made of plastic and could not withstand oil pressure," the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper quoted Kochnev as saying on May 7.
Other common problems of Bavarian crossovers were scratches on the camshaft necks due to a decrease in oil levels, oil starvation due to low oil pump performance, low timing chain life, incorrect operation of fuel injectors and high sensitivity to gasoline quality.
The specialist also included Hyundai Tucson (2016), Volvo XC60 (from 2008 to the present), Renault Kaptur (since 2016) and Opel Mokka (since 2012) in the top five most problematic crossovers in the Russian secondary market.
On April 16, automotive expert Konstantin Ozhogin warned that mineral engine oil is devoid of important parameters that are necessary for high-quality and long-lasting operation of a car engine. Some motorists are mistaken, believing that this oil is suitable for old cars or those that are running out of motor life.
