SPIEF sports events will be dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory

The events of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Sports Games will be timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The final of the Victory Cup in Show Jumping, which will be held on May 7-11, will open the program of the Games. One of the objectives of the tournament is to tell the younger generation of athletes about the heroic deeds of the Soviet people during the war.
"Fonbet. The Roscongress Hockey Cup will be dedicated to Olympic champion Nikolai Sologubov. During the war, the future hockey player was seriously injured. In February 1944, he ran into a mine, as a result of which his tibia and tibia were broken, and his ankle was crushed. The doctors were going to amputate the leg, but Nikolai Sologubov himself forbade them to do so. After the end of the war, he not only recovered, but also became one of the strongest defenders of the first generation of Soviet hockey players. Nikolai Sologubov was the first Russian defensive player to score 100 goals. As a member of the USSR national team, he won Olympic gold in Cortina d'Ampezzo and became a two-time world champion.
The teams "Business", "Politics", the administration of St. Petersburg and the sports and business community "Champion" will play for the Nikolai Sologubov Cup at the SPIEF. The uniforms of all the teams will be stylized for the era of the late 1940s.
"In 2025, at the initiative of the Ministry of Sports, the theme of the 80th anniversary of Victory runs through key competitions in all sports. It was the front-line athletes who became the national pioneers in the international sports arena and brought the country the first gold medals of the Olympic Games, World and European championships. The example of courage, perseverance and overcoming of the great athletes of the post-war era should become a reference point for young people, so it is important to tell stories about the fate of athletes from the Winning generation. In this regard, the Roscongress Foundation has decided to dedicate sports events to front-line athletes, the main business event of the year," said Georgy Bryusov, a member of the Roscongress Foundation's Supervisory Board.
The Roscongress Basketball Cup gala match will be held in the format of the SPIEF national team – St. Petersburg national team. The main trophy of the match will be dedicated to Ivan Lysov, silver medalist of the 1952 Olympic Games, participant in the battles for lifting the siege of Leningrad, who was awarded the Order of the Red Star. In May 1943, he participated in a friendly basketball tournament in Leningrad. After the end of the war, he became one of the leading basketball players of the Soviet Union. As a member of the national team, Ivan Lysov won the European Championships twice (1947, 1951). Ivan Lysov won two more gold medals as a coach. Under his leadership, the USSR women's national team became the best on the continent in 1954 and 1956.
A mass "Fight and Win" race will be held under the sign of the Victory Anniversary. The track and field races were the most massive physical culture events during the Great Patriotic War. In the spring and summer of 1944, tens of thousands of people took part in them. Participants of the SPIEF race will learn about interesting facts about sports events during the war before the start of the five-kilometer race.
