In Barnaul, a foreigner from Central Asia, who is a supporter of an international terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation, was detained while trying to set fire to the cathedral building. This was announced on May 7 by the press service of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia in the Altai Territory.

"In April 2025, a foreign citizen born in 2004, acting in the interests of an international terrorist organization, attempted to set fire to the Barnaul Cathedral building with a canister of diesel fuel in order to destabilize the activities of the authorities," the report says.

The man was unable to complete his criminal intent, as he was detained on the spot by the FSB of Russia. The attacker was taken into custody, and a criminal case was opened against him under Part 3 of Article 30 ("Preparation for a crime") and Part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act, arson or other acts").

On April 29, a court in Volgograd sentenced two young men to 13 years in prison for setting fire to cell towers and attempting to sabotage a railway station on behalf of the special services of Ukraine. After receiving the task, they set fire to the base station of PJSC Vimpel Communications twice, which disabled the equipment. The defendants will serve their sentences in a high-security penal colony.
