2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. This is a special holiday for Russians and residents of a number of other countries whose ancestors fought against the Nazi invaders. Every year in Russia, the memory of those who died is honored, bringing victory closer. Izvestia has prepared postcards and GIFs ahead of May 9th.

In addition, on the occasion of the anniversary of Izvestia, a special project "80 days to Victory" was launched. It publishes articles published during the war, the full list of which can be found in the electronic archive. A virtual museum dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory has also been created, featuring photographs of the war years and war heroes. Now you can see them, including on media facades in different cities of Russia.

80 years of the Great Victory in 2025

The Great Patriotic War began on June 22, 1941, when early in the morning Nazi Germany launched its first massive attack on the territory of the Soviet Union. At that time, no one knew that 1,418 long tragic days of battles and losses lay ahead, during which more than 25 million people would die.

May 9 became the official Victory Day holiday thanks to a decree signed on May 8, 1945. The first Victory Day Parade was held on June 24, 1945 in Moscow on Red Square. He was received by Marshal Georgy Zhukov, Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky commanded the parade.

The highlight of the celebration was how the soldiers of the Red Army threw 200 captured banners of Nazi troops to the foot of the mausoleum — as a sign of the final victory over fascism.

Beautiful GIFs, heartfelt teezes and congratulations on May 9th

First of all, on Victory Day, veterans of the Great Patriotic War are congratulated — those who fought on the fronts, worked in the rear, survived the blockade, and who lost loved ones for the sake of Victory.

These are people to whom society is deeply indebted, and every warm phrase and every attention paid to them on this day is especially valuable. They are congratulated personally, if there is such an opportunity: at home, on the streets, in institutions. They give flowers and say words of gratitude.

It is also customary to congratulate war children, concentration camp prisoners, and those who survived the occupation — they are all part of a generation that endured the horrors of wartime.

May 9th is an extremely important day for Russians and residents of many countries around the world. This date commemorates the Great Victory over fascism and Nazism, the ideologies that threatened the lives of millions of people during the largest and most tragic war in human history.

The memory of the heroism and victims of the Great Patriotic War is deeply rooted in national identity.

It is especially significant that eight decades later, there are still living witnesses of those events, and their descendants — the children and grandchildren of veterans — today make up a significant part of society.

In honor of the celebration of the Great Victory, Izvestia has prepared colorful postcards and greetings. They can be shared with friends and family, colleagues and friends.
