The State Duma called for increased inspections of gas equipment in homes

In Russia, it is necessary to step up inspections of gas equipment in apartment buildings and tighten liability for negligence. This was stated on May 7 by Alexander Yakubovsky, a member of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"It is necessary to step up inspections of gas equipment in apartment buildings, as well as strengthen responsibility for violations, which are often committed either due to negligence or in an effort to save money," the parliamentarian said.
Yakubovsky recalled that under current legislation, administrative fines of up to 2 thousand rubles are provided for these violations for citizens, up to 5 thousand for officials and up to 100 thousand for legal entities. According to the MP, the current punitive measures are not enough.
Yakubovsky noted that the priority is the safety of the country's citizens, not the comfort and cost savings of contractors.
"We are talking about people's lives, and this is an area where the cost of error is unacceptably high," the parliamentarian added.
Earlier, on April 30, a family with young children was hospitalized in Ulyanovsk with signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. It is specified that the prosecutor's office of the region organized an inspection, including of the management company and the organization responsible for the gas equipment in the house.
