Lavrov stated the desire of the Russian Federation and Vietnam to create a system of equal security in the Asia-Pacific region

Russia and Vietnam intend to work together to create a modern architecture of equal security in the Asia-Pacific region (APR). This was announced on May 7 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the article "Russia and Vietnam: 75 years of friendship, trust and mutual assistance."

"Moscow and Hanoi are firmly committed to creating an architecture of equal and indivisible security in the Asia—Pacific region, adequate to modern realities, based on universally recognized norms of international law," the article says.

Lavrov clarified that the formation of narrowly focused bloc alliances by some states in the Asia-Pacific region is alarming for the parties.

In addition, the Russian Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to Vietnam for its "balanced position" on the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, to solve this problem, it is necessary to eliminate its root causes.

He added that Moscow and Hanoi continue practical cooperation, despite the difficult international situation and anti-Russian sanctions from the United States and other countries. According to him, the trade turnover between Russia and Vietnam increased by 20.2% in 2024.

In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that the Russian Federation is proud of the cooperation between states in the industrial, fuel and energy sectors and many others. He specified that the parties plan to continue working to realize the potential of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the countries.

On April 6, Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko noted the high value of relations with Hanoi for Moscow during a meeting with Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man. In addition, she spoke about the steady growth of mutual trade between Russia and Vietnam, as well as the development of cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.
