Russian engineers have created robotic complexes designed to check microchips during the manufacturing process. They examine electronic components at different stages of production and use machine vision algorithms to determine compliance with standards. The results of the inspection are displayed on a monitor in real time.

"When controlling the quality of electronics, the capabilities of human vision are limited when it comes to the size of devices measured in a few microns. The robotic complex aims to solve these problems. It is equipped with various cameras, electron microscopes and artificial intelligence abilities to detect defects in the optical range, as well as a number of other sensors," Vyacheslav Malyshev, one of the developers, a senior engineer of JSC "Central Design Bureau "Dayton" (part of GC "Element"), told Izvestia.

In this case, the specialist explained, the devices log the inspection process, form a summary, calculate the yield and analyze the increase or decrease in the quality of products. This makes it possible to detect vulnerabilities in the production process and eliminate them. Such measures help to increase the percentage of quality products and reduce their final cost.

According to Malyshev, the robots detect cracks, scratches or chips, as well as unprinted fragments, warps, irregularities, track breaks, dust and chemical residues. The size of tested items can range from 0.1 mm to 300 mm and the maximum camera resolution is up to 3 microns. At the same time, the inspection speed reaches up to 1 square centimeter per second.
