The 80th anniversary of the victory over Japanese militarism and thus the 80th anniversary of the end of the long world war in all theaters of operations is a date that requires great public and world attention, SF Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said in an interview with Izvestia.

"Of absolutely special significance this victory has for such countries as Russia, the People's Republic of China, Mongolia. And, I am sure, in our countries we will widely and worthily celebrate the anniversary, hold a number of large-scale events, pay tribute to the memory of the heroes who laid down their heads in the fight against fascism in the Far East and Asia," summarized the speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament.

In her opinion, joint anniversary celebrations and the presence of Russian officials at the parade to be held in Beijing would be absolutely appropriate. But it is too early to talk about the format of joint events, Valentina Matvienko added.
