On May 6, the Russian Ministry of Defense revealed documents with information about the feat performed by Guard Sergeant Kemel Tokayev, the father of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during the Great Patriotic War (WWII).
"The central archive of the Ministry of Defense has an award list for Tokayev Kemel, the commander of the 7th Separate Guards Heavy Tank Regiment, who was presented with the Order of the Patriotic War of the second degree and was awarded it in January 1945 for the feat he accomplished during the liberation of Poland," the chief documentarian told Izvestia. with the media and the public of the Central Federal District of Russia Julia Wenger.
According to the documents, Tokayev first carried out the task of defending Russian tanks, and then, together with his comrades, went on the offensive. He was one of the first to break into enemy positions and, using a combat machine gun, destroyed five Germans, as well as wounded and captured another.
According to Wenger, Tokayev was seriously wounded in the leg during the offensive, after which he was hospitalized and discharged in June 1954.
Izvestia correspondent Denis Kaluga noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense is disclosing these documents on the eve of the anniversary of the victory in the Red Army in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).
