Belgium announced the postponement of deliveries of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine

Belgium has postponed the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine indefinitely due to the postponement of deliveries of F-35 aircraft from the United States. This was announced on May 6 by the head of the Belgian Ministry of Defense, Theo Franken.
"We will supply Ukraine with 30 F-16 fighter jets in the coming years, when we start receiving F-35s from the United States," Franken said during his speech at the Atlantic Council, an American think tank.
In addition, he added that Belgium plans to purchase NASAMS and Patriot air defense systems in order to protect the institutions of the European Union (EU), the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), Euroclear and SWIFT, which are located on its territory.
On March 7, Franken announced the supply of weapons to Kiev for € 1 billion. The aid package reportedly also included the supply of F-16 fighter jets. Franken added that €216 million will be used to purchase artillery shells as part of the Czech artillery initiative.
