Carney told Trump about the impossibility of selling Canada
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said during a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington that his country is not for sale. The May 6 meeting was broadcast on the official White House YouTube page.
"As you know from the real estate industry, there are places that never sell," Carney said.
Trump, in turn, noted that he was not going to discuss this topic with the prime Minister now, but stressed that such a development would "give a lot of advantages" to Ottawa. The American leader stressed that he respects Canadians, and the United States will be friends with this country.
In addition, the American leader said that he would like to conclude a new trade agreement with Ottawa and intends to discuss the situation in Ukraine with Carney.
On February 2, Trump said that if Canada wants to achieve tax cuts and avoid paying customs duties, it should join the United States as the 51st state. The American leader added that without huge American subsidies, Canada would simply lose its viability.
