The expert predicted lower prices for new cars in early summer

In June, the downward trend in prices for new cars, especially Chinese-made ones, will continue. Alexey Ivanov, the owner of the ALLIANCE TRUCKS commercial vehicle dealership network, told Izvestia about this on May 6.
According to him, the main reason is overcrowded warehouses: against the background of weak demand for imported cars, dealers are trying to free up space as soon as possible.
"Maintaining unsold cars requires significant costs, and new supplies — including fresh models — continue to arrive. To speed up sales, dealers are willing to offer significant discounts, sometimes reaching a million rubles," he explained.
The expert clarified that brands that have failed to gain a foothold in the Russian market are particularly active in this regard — they close their stores and sell off leftovers at low prices. However, he warned that buying such cars is associated with serious risks: the lack of an official representative office in the country can lead to problems with service and spare parts.
"Prices for newly imported cars and fresh models also remain relatively low. This is due to the strengthening of the ruble against the dollar and the yuan, as the Chinese currency weakened due to the actions of the local regulator," Ivanov said.
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that Chinese cars quickly lose value after purchase: a year later, they cost only 50-60% of the original price on the secondary market. This dynamic is due to poor adaptation to Russian conditions and low durability.
"The trend continues, as the choice in the market is mainly limited to Chinese brands, and the high key rate of the Central Bank (Central Bank of the Russian Federation. — Ed.) makes it difficult to buy even used cars for cash — there are few paying customers, and there is a lot of competition for them. Nevertheless, a reversal is expected in July — a possible increase in prices for Chinese cars," the expert concluded.
The day before, Autostat Info reported that in the first quarter of 2025, 164.9 thousand SUV class vehicles (crossovers and SUVs) were sold in Russia, which is 30.6% less year-on-year. Despite the decline in sales, their share in the structure of the country's car market increased and reached 68.2%.
