The Vatican has annulled two symbols of the Pope's authority

The ceremony of annulment of two symbols of the pope's authority — the lead seal and the so—called "ring of the Fisherman" - took place in the Vatican. This was announced on May 6 on the official website of the Holy See.
"During this last general congregation before the conclave, the "ring of the Fisherman" and the lead seal of Pope Francis were destroyed, in accordance with canonical norms," the publication says.
By tradition, the pontiff uses a seal and a ring when signing apostolic letters. It is specified that the ceremony precedes the beginning of the procedure for electing a new head of the Roman Catholic Church.
All 133 cardinals who can vote at the upcoming conclave gathered in Rome on May 5. They are holding the 10th General Congregation to prepare for the upcoming conclave.
The conclave to select a new pope will meet on May 7. 135 cardinals under the age of 80 from around the world can take part in the conclave.
Pope Francis died at the age of 89 on the morning of April 21 from a cerebral stroke. He last appeared in public on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica during Easter celebrations on April 20. As previously reported, the pontiff has been struggling with bilateral pneumonia for a long time.
